How to enable two-factor authentication
Add an authenticator app so a stolen password alone cannot get into your account.
Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds a six-digit code from an app on your phone to every sign-in. Even someone who knows your password cannot get in without your phone. We strongly recommend turning it on.
What you need
An authenticator app such as Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator, installed on your phone.
Steps
- Go to your profile.
- Switch on two-factor authentication. A window opens showing a QR code and a manual setup key.
- In your authenticator app, add an account and scan the QR code. If you cannot scan, type the setup key instead.
- Your app now shows a six-digit code that changes every 30 seconds. Enter the current code and choose Verify & Enable 2FA.
- Save the recovery codes you are shown. Do this now, not later.
Save your recovery codes before you close that window. If you lose your phone and have no
recovery codes, regaining access is slow and may not be possible.
From your next sign-in you will be asked for your password and then a code from the app.
