How Earn rates work — read this first
The advertised rate normally applies to a small amount only. Here is how to find your real rate.
The rate shown on an Earn product is the maximum rate available on it, not the rate your whole balance will receive.
Rates are usually tiered
These products typically work in tiers. A promotional or bonus rate applies to a capped amount — often a small one. Everything you subscribe above that cap earns the base rate, which is normally far lower.
So a product advertising a high headline rate may pay that rate on only a fraction of your subscription, with the remainder earning a fraction of it. The larger your subscription, the further your blended rate falls below the headline number.
Also affecting what you receive
- Rates are variable. They move with market conditions, including after you subscribe. Nothing is guaranteed.
- Term matters. Fixed-term products generally advertise more than flexible ones, in return for locking your coins up.
- Accrual takes time. A position subscribed and redeemed quickly may earn little or nothing.
- The return is in the subscribed coin. A gain in coin terms can still be a loss in rand terms if the coin falls.
Checking what you actually earned
Use your Earn wallet and history to see real accrued amounts rather than projections.
Nothing here is financial advice, and Cryolynx does not recommend any product.
